What's on this month? I Louisa R
Since I was a teenager, there hasn't been a week of my life where I didn't go somewhere to hear live music. Whether it was in a concert hall, a club, a church...
Attending a concert is my happy place. This year, it's been near impossible to listen to live music, but I've found solutions which will cheer any with a melomaniac tendency.
Here is my top pic for this time of the year- an unmissable piece of music always heard in December which is Handel's Messiah. There are thousands of performances of this piece during December, but I've chosen the Academy of Ancient Music version, which will be live streamed from the Barbican on December 19th. I bet you won't be able to resist singing the famous 'Hallelujah'!
If you're missing the crowded ambiance of jazz clubs, grab a cocktail (or mocktail) and go on the Smalls Jazz Club website. Recorded in the illustrious New York City jazz club, they have an array of concerts available. You will find performances from some of the most talented jazz musicians in the world!
If you are more of a dance fan, the New York City Ballet will stream their iconic production of George Balanchine's Nutcracker, from December 11th to 3rd January 2021 . The famous music of Tchaikovsky will transport you into a snowy fairytale.
Finally, for those of you who, like me enjoy a good dance, I suggest you check out 'L'Appart Chez Moi', an initiative by the French DJ Barbara Butch which offers to bring the party to your home... via Zoom! Throw on your best outfit, turn on the camera, plug in your headphones, pump up the volume and dance with hundreds of people via Zoom to the groovy mixes of this amazing DJ!
What live events will you be attending from the comfort of your home this December?
