What’s on this Month

The month of May has arrived, and the season of spring is in full swing. A great way to venture out this month is at the Queen of Hoxton Rooftop which takes the theme of Las Mexicanas. Taking inspiration from the colourful backstreets of San Cristobal in #Mexico, this rooftop will have a band-stand, wrestling ring and a backstreet bar, where guests can order exotic drinks like Chilli and Mango Margaritas. Themed events such as feminist embroidery and mescal insect tasting will also appeal to those with a more eclectic taste. I’m sure the slow cooked pork and pineapple tacos, fresh nachos and chilli cheese burgers will appeal to the majority though! This event will be taking place from the 2nd of May and will teach you to party Mexican style.

A fun way of pushing yourself into pastures anew is by taking up a new hobby. #London Craft week is a five-day event that brings together more than 230 #events from paper flower making to weaving, covering design, fashion, art, culture and shopping. This event will be taking place at various venues across London from the 8th – 12th of May. In Mayfair, Jessica McCormack will present an evening of curated jewellery craftsmanship, knitwear brand Pringle of Scotland will showcase their skills and Portuguese craftsmanship will be celebrated at Christian Louboutin. Stationary brand Caran d’Ache will unveil the secrets behind their pencils and Battersea Power Station will host a large-scale woven installation. What new craft would you like to learn?

Manga, which literally means ‘pictures run riot’, is a narrative art form that has crossed over into other forms of #cultural expression, including ‘cosplay’ dressing up. From the 23rd of May, a recreation of the oldest surviving manga bookshop in Tokyo will come to the British Museum as it stages the largest exhibition of manga ever to take place outside of Japan. This art form is older than what most people expect with some pieces such as The Handscrolls of Frolicking Animals (Choju giga), dating back to 1200 AD. This exhibition will help you understand the world of manga and how it has become a #multimedia global phenomenon. Are you a fan of manga?
