Do Not Disturb While Driving
Everyone who uses a #smartphone knows the 'Airplane mode' which disables all of its #wireless transmission functions. It is a mandatory mode on a flight but it can also be useful when we use the smartphone to take notes or read e-Books and don't want to be disturbed.
At this year's #Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) Apple has presented another useful mode - Do Not Disturb While Driving. Available to iOS 11 users, this mode is described by #Apple as a convenient way to help drivers focus on the road.
The iPhone's sensors can detect when the user is driving and will automatically disable notifications and turn off the screen. The received messages will be replied with an explanation that the user is currently driving and will answer when he reaches the #destination. Urgent messages must have 'urgent' written on them to override the mode and reach the driver.
Passengers will also get a note that the Do Not Disturb While Driving mode is activated, which they can disable it by pressing the 'I'm not driving icon' if they want to use the smartphone.
I think this is indeed the right step towards increased #safety on the road. Most of us receive a significant stream of messages while driving, and although 99% of them don't need an immediate reply we do feel the need to read them even though we shouldn't...
