Stephen Hawking: The Future of Mankind is Outside Planet Earth

May 14, 2017

Stephen Hawking has no doubt that if the human race wants to avoid #extinction, we will have to be ready to leave our planet #Earth in the next 100 years!

The mission to search and colonise other #planets that are suitable for human life isn't being done on a whim from the scientific community but it is indeed a necessity for our survival as a species.

Working on BBC's #documentary Tomorrow's World, the British astrophysicist explains that perils such as climate change, overpopulation, epidemics, nuclear wars and asteroids hitting the Earth can cause mankind's extinction in the next century.

The probability of a disaster that destroys the Earth will also continue to rise into a certainty in the next 1,000 to 10,000 years but by then we should already be colonising other planets, says Hawking.

There are several efforts to colonise #Mars, with Elon Musk leading the way. The renowned #entrepreneur wishes to establish the first Mars colony during the next couple of decades, and has detailed plans on how he will accomplish it.

All of this planning and preparation to colonise other planets may seem far-fetched to many of us, our ancestors during the Age of Discovery probably thought the same way, and look at where we are now!
