Must-See Sights on a Bahrain Break

August 8, 2016

What can Bahrain offer the traveller?

Bahrain in recent years has not had the best press, with the #Arab #Spring making its mark on both the #physical and #political #landscape and ongoing clashes between the #country’s #Sunni and #Shia populations. However, on the ground, life in Bahrain continues as normal for the majority of people and the tiny #island remains a safe spot for any curious #traveller to #explore.

#Tree of Life

The Tree of Life is #legendary in the #region. A #400 #years old #mesquite #tree, it is found in the middle of the #desert far from any known #water #source or other #plant #life, making it a unique #sight to lay eyes on. Far from being undernourished the tree, which stands at nearly 10 metres tall, is covered in green #leaves and #flowers twice a year.

#Bahrain Fort (Qal’at al Bahrain)

Bahrain Fort was once the capital of the #Dilmun #civilisation and it is thought the area has been #occupied for up to #5000 #years. Today, the sprawling fort is a #UNESCO #World #Heritage Site and a vital stop on any tour of the island, where visitors can walk the walls and walkways of the #fort itself before diving into its #history in the attached #museum.
