What’s on this Month

You may be feeling down knowing that the summer will be over soon, but there’s plenty to do this August that will help perk you up. If #opera is something that always brings a smile to your face, then you’re in for a treat as the Shanghai Opera House comes to the #London Coliseum with their show Thunderstorm. Minghzhe Zha directs this award winning modern opera about family, society and corruption in Old Shanghai. It is based on the acclaimed 1935 play by Cao Yu and is set to music by the legendary composer Mo Fan. The story unfolds in the space of one day and centres around the disastrous effects of rigid traditionalism and hypocrisy in the Zhou family. This opera will be performed from the 11th to the 14th of August. How often do you visit the opera?

This Bank Holiday weekend the BBC Good Food #Festival takes place at Hampton Court Palace. Visitors can sample a diverse range of food and gain knowledge with expert tips from well-known cooks and chefs including Paul #Hollywood, Le Gavroche chef Michel Roux Jr and The #Great British Bake Off winner Jo Wheatley. Chefs will be working their magic in the kitchen as they make dishes in front of a live interactive audience. The roaming circus will have you #spellbound as they show off their skills around the palace grounds throughout the day. Kids will be able to take part in juggling classes, have their faces painted and play old school games like the sack race and the egg and spoon race.

What is your tipple of choice?

The Gin Festival is the UK’s largest gin event which also takes place on the 26th, 27th and 28th August at Tobacco Dock. The festival returns for its second year and will have over 100 gins to showcase. #Visitors can sample exclusive and new gins from a variety of #producers, including Tarquins Single Estate Tea Gin that has been made especially for this event. You will receive a special Gin Festival glass and a brochure detailing information about each of the gins and procedures, with a variety of garnish ideas. There will also be live #entertainment, including talks from experts in the gin industry.
