A Slice of South West London

As a city with hundreds of historic and #cultural offerings in its centre alone, #visitors could be forgiven for never straying beyond London’s Zone 1 borders. However, it is well worth exploring further afield, and South West London has some real gems to be discovered.

A 20 minute train ride from Waterloo or short spell on the District Line will bring you into Richmond, leafy and picturesque and most recently in the headlines after Sir David Attenborough, a long time resident, declared it his “favourite place on Earth”. A wander by the #Thames riverside to historic #Ham House or up the hill to #Richmond Park, the largest of London’s Royal Parks, demonstrates just why this area proves so popular.

Hopping aboard a #riverboat will take you on a journey with a difference, encompassing beautiful scenery, birds and boatyards and passing through the famous Teddington Lock before reaching Kingston, the shopping and entertainment hub of the area, brimming with #cafes, #shops, #restaurants and bars.

If you are after history, stay on board until you reach #Hampton Court. The 16th century palace, in its day a favourite of Henry VIII, offers not just a royal house to be explored but also boasts famous gardens that come complete with a maze and what is said to be the largest grape vine in the world.
