The World’s Five Best Islands

April 18, 2015

With the thousands upon thousands of islands to be found across the #globe, finding the best ones to visit can be a momentous feat and it can be difficult to know where to begin.

Fortunately, #Travel + #Leisure #Magazine has helped to narrow this down with its annual poll of readers to find out what are widely believed to be the world’s best islands.

2014’s results put the #Philippines at the top of the list, taking not just first place but second place too. It is the country’s island of #Palawan, a newcomer to the list that scooped top spot, thanks to “its unspoiled beauty, abundant #wildlife, and seascapes... deemed second to none”. #Boracay, last year’s number one, lies not far behind, a tiny, #romantic #getaway that boasts of having the softest sands in the world.

Small and secluded makes way for the bigger and better-known #shores of #Maui in #Hawaii for spot number three in the #poll. The island has been a favourite for years and this shows no sign of abating, with its excellent #surfing, miles of #picturesque# coastline and its #volcano trails all listed as reasons to #visit.

At number four is the #Greek island of #Santorini, which offers the best #sunset #views to be had anywhere on #Earth, while the top five is rounded up with a rather different type of scene in #Prince Edward Island, #Canada, a spot that “attracts visitors with its #cobalt blue #seas, vibrant #emerald #pastures, and #red sands”.
