The World Woodland Garden is a new area of the #picturesque #Chelsea Physic Garden that opens on 1st April to 31st October. This half an acre micro-forest is filled with 150 new plants and restores this part of the garden as the #wilderness area it was in the 1700s. The garden represents three #geographic #regions: Americas, #Europe and East #Asia. You can wander around on your own at your own pace, or join one of the volunteer guides who can help you discover the new plants, forest trees, shrubs and bulbs. This #project highlights the importance of #forests around the #world and the #medicinal and useful plants that they produce.
The #Easter #holidays challenges all parents of finding ways to keep their children entertained. The Natural #History Museum may help in keeping your curious children occupied with the erection of a tropical butterfly house on the museum lawn. Visitors to Sensational Butterflies will be able to take on butterfly challenges, try out games and activities as they explore one of the planet’s most amazing life cycles and experience the magic of walking among hundreds of free flying tropical butterflies. A hatchery window will allow you to watch butterflies emerging from their chrysalises. The Sensational Butterflies event is open from 2ndApril to 13th September and makes a day out that the whole family will enjoy.
#St George’s Day always falls on 23rd April, but it will be celebrated in style this year on Saturday 25th April in Trafalgar Square. It is a free event and is held in recognition of England’s dragon-slaying patron saint. This year’s event is inspired by 13th century origins of St George’s Day as a national day of feasting with an #English farmer’s market with stalls selling hog roast, homemade pies and delicious cakes. There will be live demos from leading London chefs who will be preparing dishes from past and present in Cook’s Corner. As well as being able to enjoy a variety of foods, you will also be able to enjoy live music with bands playing on the main stage, and if you’re feeling extra festive you can join in with some good old fashioned sing songs. By the end of the day, you’ll be very full from all the tasty food, have a croaky voice by singing too much and your arms hurting with lots of flag waving, all signs of a great day out.
